Over 200 artists gathered on the stage situated in the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures [Spotkania Kultur] in Lublin to perform Seven Gates of Jerusalem — the monumental work based on the Old Testament texts composed by Krzysztof Penderecki. Relatively rarely performed due to its gigantic performance and logistical requirements, the piece was conducted by the Maestro Penderecki himself, in honor of the 700th anniversary of the City of Lublin and the 100th anniversary of the Catholic University of Lublin.
The Seven Gates of Jerusalem” is written for an ensemble of 120 instrumentalists, 90 choir singers, 5 soloists and reciter, and its performances are a unique musical spectacle. The piece was performed on February 9 by the Sinfonietta Cracovia and the Krakow Philharmonic Choir alongside a number of excellent soloists: Iwona Hossa – soprano, Karolina Sikora – soprano, Anna Lubańska – mezzosoprano, Adam Zdunikowski – tenor, and Piotr Nowacki – bass. The musicians were joined by an outstanding Polish actor Sławomir Holland, who will perform as a reciter.
