2017 marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of Feliks Nowowiejski, a Polish composer, conductor, organist, teacher and choirmaster, and “Co mi w duszy gra?” [What plays in my soul?] is a cycle of concerts dedicated to works by Nowowiejski. Held on September 16 at the Franciscan basilica in Katowice, the next concert in this cycle is organized under the title “Poland and her history.” The concert will features the Poznań Chamber Choir joined by baritone soloist Radosław Góra and organist Jakub Pankowiak. In addition to works by Nowowiejski, the program will include works by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Andrzej Koszewski, Marek Raczyński, Michael McGlynn, Mikołaj Gomółka, and Maurice Duruflé.
The Poznań Chamber Choir is currently considered the best such ensemble in Poland, as recognized with L’Orphée d’Or by the Académie du Disque Lyrique in Paris in 2013 and the Fryderyk Award nomination for the 2-CD set of music by Pasquale Anfossi. Choir was founded in 2005 by Bartosz Michałowski, who at that point served as assistant to the legendary Prof. Stefan Stuligrosz. Maestro Michałowski now serves as choir director for the National Philharmonic.
