For almost half a century, the Polish Authors’ rights society (ZAiKS) has recognized many artists with prizes, based on the selections made by their artistic peers. There are eight categories, including literary translations, promotion of Polish contemporary music, a Warsaw-themed prize, promotion of Polish pop music, and achievements in choreography, visual arts, journalism, and art for children. This year’s award ceremony took place on April 23, the World Book Day and Authors’ Rights Day.
In the area of music, Piotr Bakal and Zbigniew Krajewski were awarded for their efforts in promoting Polish popular music and Zbigniew Kozub for his work on behalf of promoting Polish contemporary music, especially through his directorship of the Poznańska Wiosna Muzyczna Festival. This year’s ceremony also featured granting of special awards to composers and musicians Henryk Kuźniak, Zbigniew Namysłowskiand Krzysztof Sadowski.
