On February 28, the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble will perform a program of chamber works with guest pianist Maciej Grzybowski (above) and mezzo-soprano Urszula Kryger, under the baton of Paweł Kapuła. The concert highlights constructivism and futurism in Soviet art, represented by works of genuine interest and artistic merit. These artistic trends were soon replaced by the regime with the doctrine of social-realism, where artists were reduced to the role of “a worker of culture.” The program will include: Alexander Mosolov’s Four Newspaper Advertisements and Three Scenes from Childhood, and Nikolai Roslavets’s Three Pieces for Piano Solo and Five Preludes as well as works by Vladimir Scherbachov, Aleksey Zhivotov, and Sergei Prokofiev.
