On January 8, the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra in Katowice (NOSPR) broke barriers and welcomed new audiences when they broadcasted their traditional New Year’s Concert online via YouTube. Audiences had the opportunity to hear well known and widely loved pieces by Viennese masters by simply navigating to the orchestra’s website or Polish Radio Channel 2. The concert program included overtures, arias and duets from operettas by eminent Hungarian-born composers Franz Lehár and Imre Kálmán, and featured special guests Karina Skrzeszewska (soprano), Adam Sobierajski (tenor) and Stanisław Kuflyuk (baritone). The concert was conducted by the popular José Maria Florêncio. The NOSPR is the latest of the Polish music institutions—along with the National Philharmonic and the Teatr Wielki National Opera—to broadcast their events online.
