(R): Mikołaj Górecki with PMC Director Marek Zebrowski viewing the PMC Manuscript Collection in 2010

The world premiere of Orpheus and Euridice by Mikołaj Górecki will be presented during this year’s Tansman Festival on October 16 in Polish Radio’s Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw. The composer characterizes the work as a “piece reflected in three sections, corresponding to the key moments in a drama Orpheus: Orpheus lament the death of Eurydice, Orpheus’ journey to the land of the dead, and the final excitement of the myth—the uncertain hope.”

The 20 minute composition will be performed by the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra under the baton of Jerzy Maksymiuk. The long awaited world premiere of Two Tristan Postludes and Chorale op. 82, composed by his father Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and orchestrated by Mikołaj Górecki, will also be featured in the same concert.
