Krzysztof Meyer

On September 30, the Krakow Philharmonic hosted a symphony concert to celebrate the 70th anniversary of The Fryderyk Chopin School of Music and General Education in Krakow. Performances throughout the evening’s concertfeatured the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maciej Tarnowski, as well as some of the school’s alumni. Among them were: Daniel Stabrawa – the first concertmaster and soloist of Berlin Philharmonic, Mariola Cieniawa – an excellent pianist and teacher, Karol Olechowski –the concertmaster of The National Opera Orchestra in Lyon, and Ewa Miecznikowska – a soloist from the same orchestra.

The highlight of the concert will be the world premiere of Metamorphoses by Krzysztof Meyer, who is also an alumnus of Chopin School of Music. The composer prefaced the debut of his new work by saying: “I did not want to compose an occasional piece, like fanfare for the anniversary of “my” school. My goal was to compose a piece, which would be for me not only a new experience, but also developed certain ideas from the previous works, regarding the form, sound, harmony and rhythm.” As part of the concert program, audiences heard the Violin Concerto No. 2 by Karol Szymanowski, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C-major and Polish Melodies by Mieczysław Weinberg.
