The 9th Nowe Miasto Summer Festival is taking place in Warsaw July 22—August 7, featuring music exclusively by Polish composers and free admission. There will be a total of nine concerts, including three Friday Chamber Music Concerts as well as Saturday Youth Concerts for preschoolers. Sunday concerts in various churches will feature orchestral repertoire.  The Festival opened on July 22 with the proMODERN vocal sextet in a program of Shakespeare’s Sonnets set to music by such composers as Miłosz Bembinow, Andrzej Borzyma, Krzesimir Dębski, Krzysztof Herdzin, Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska, Paweł Łukaszewski, and Tomasz Opałka. This was followed by the world premieres of works by Sebastian Zawadzki, Sebastian Krajewski and Jerzy Wołochowicz performed by the Warsaw Camerata Orchestra under Paweł Kos-Nowicki on July 24.

Other Festival attractions include Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s Third String Quartet performed by the Royal String Quartet, and Offertoria et communiones by Mikołaj Zieleński performed by the La Tempesta Ensemble. The closing concert on August 7 will present the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra with Anna Duczmal-Mróz in a program of works by Adam Haczewski, Henryk Wieniawski, Romuald Twardowski, Karol Szymanowski, and Mikołaj Górecki. The organizers of this Festival include the Nowa Orkiestra Kameralna Foundation and Warsaw Camerata Orchestra. The Festival’s main sponsors include the Office of Cultural Affairs of the City of Warsaw and the STOART Society of Performing Artists.
