Kilar. Geniusz o dwóch twarzach
Maria Wilczek-Krupa
Wydawnictwo Znak, 2015
Entitled Kilar. Geniusz o dwóch twarzach [Kilar. Genius of two faces], the first full biography of composer Wojciech Kilar provides a fascinating portrait of the recently deceased artist. Describing himself as “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” Kilar was known for his great love of fast cars and his fervent Catholic faith. The book sheds light on Kilar’s greatest love—his wife Barbara—and his appreciation of fine things in life, including an elegant lifestyle, world travel, the love of books and a sweet spot for cats.
Maria Wilczek-Krupa, a radio and press journalist, has woven into her book many little-known facts and anecdotes from Kilar’s long and eventful life that included working with such iconic film directors and Francis Ford Coppola, Roman Polański, Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Zanussi, among others. The biography is based on many long conversations the author carried with the composer shortly before his death on December 29, 2013.
