An October 24 concert at the Mickiewicz University Hall in Poznań honored composer Paweł Łukaszewski, who received the Jerzy Kurczewski Award. Łukaszewski received his prize from Krzysztof Meyer, head of the Awards Committee and Alina Kurczewska, daughter of the Award’s founder and a distinguished choral conductor herself.

Led by maestro Jacek Sykulski, the Poznań Boys’ Choir and Girls’ Vocal Ensemble from the Poznań Choir School with special guest organist Sławomir Kamiński presented works by Wacław of Szamotuł, Mikołaj Zieleński, and Jacek Sykulski, in addition to featured selection from Łukaszewski’s extensive choral repertoire.

The Kurczewski Award is given to outstanding Polish composers of choral music. Since 1999, the Kurczewski Award has recognized such leading composers as Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Jan Łukaszewski, and Violetta Bielecka.
