Polish-born pianist, harpsichordist and educator Magdalena Baczewska has several interesting concerts related to her position as Director of the Music Performance Program at Columbia University during the month of April. On April 15, she will participate in the Miller Theatre Children’s Concert, an interactive concert aimed at 5-7 year olds. Coloring books and crayons will be provided. The concert will feature Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” and some favorite children’s songs. On April 22, she will give a recital entitled “Concert Spirituals and the Black Soprano” with soprano Marti Newland at the St. Paul’s Chapel at Columbia University, followed by a panel discussion on blackness and vocality. Finally, on April 24, she will play continuo for the Barnard-Columbia Chorus and Chamber Choir in their Spring Concert performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Church of the Ascension.
