The Anna and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz Museum in Stawisko (pictured above) is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year, and its annual ‘Musical Confrontations’ Festival marks its fifteenth year as well. In celebration, a series of concerts, lectures and discussion forums is scheduled throughout the month of October, illustrating the importance of this charming manor house within the cultural landscape of Poland.
The chamber music concert series began on September 28 with a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, performed by pianist Beata Bilińska, oboist Marek Mleczko, clarinetist Roman Widaszek, bassoonist Paweł Solecki and French horn player Leszek Salwa. The Włodek Pawlik Trio will present a jazz concert, featuring songs composed to Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s poems on October 5. On October 10-11 in the manor house, the Art history Department of Warsaw University will hold an international conference discussing timely issues in art and art history. A day later, the Opium String Quartet (at right) will present works by Mozart, Szymanowski, and Kilar.
On October 19, Violinist Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, cellist Tomasz Strahl and pianist Bartłomiej Kominek will present a chamber music concert and, on the 26th, vocalist Aga Zaryan and pianist Michał Tokaj appear in a program of music and poetry to texts by Czesław Miłosz and Kamil Baczyński.
Exhibits of photographs from the Iwaszkiewicz archives and other lectures are planned throughout October. A detailed schedule of events can be found at: www.stawisko.pl
