Lutosławski’s latest biography, jointly written by Danuta Gwizdalanka and Krzysztof Meyer, was recently published in German translation by Christina Marie Hauptmeier. Entitled Wege zur Meisterschaft [The Road to Excellence], this 415-page volume has been updated with the latest research and scholarship resulting from the Lutosławski centenary celebrations in 2013.

Krzysztof Meyer, a prominent Polish composer and a close friend of Lutosławski, sketches a compelling and insightful portrait of this iconic twentieth century composer. Meyer’s wife, Danuta Gwizdalanka, a noted musicologist and writer, provides to the reader with insights and analysis of Lutosławski’s creative development as a composer.

Published by Pfau Verlag and illustrated with a number of rare photographs, this biography will certainly contribute to better understanding of Lutosławski’s role in the musical life of Poland, especially his influence on contemporary music, and the political reality in post-war Poland until the country returned to democratic governance in 1989.
