Another music festival featuring historical venues with interesting programming in a city where Copernicus was born is running from June 24 until August 30 this year in Toruń. Called “Europe &Toruń. Music & Architecture,” this will be the 18th edition of the Festival that presents a wide spectrum of music from the Baroque to contemporary and from classical to experimental and jazz. A number of interesting guest artists will be heard, including flutist Łukasz Dłgosz, organist Roman Perucki, choral ensembles Cantores Minores Wratislavienses and Claret Gospel Choir from Côte d’Ivoire, as well as combined military band orchestras from Toruń and Warsaw. Young Polish pianist Wojciech Waleczek will perform with a string quartet from the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, cellist Tomasz Daroch will present an evening of duets for cello and piano, and maestro Maciej Figas from the Opera Nova in nearby Bydgoszcz will lead the Toruń Symphony Orchestra in an “Opera Night” program featuring soloists Dariusz Stachura, Paweł Skałuba and Adam Szerszeń.

The High Definition Ensemble, led by “piano hooligan” Piotr Orzechowski, will present a genre-bending evening of musical theatricals, spanning contemporary avant-garde, jazz, classical music and free improvisation. A special light show will accompany some of the performances and young pianists from the Paderewski Piano Academy complete the roster of this summer’s attractions in this charming medieval city.
