On April 22, the premiere of Violin Concerto No. 2 “Afterglow” by Tomasz J. Opałka will be held at NOSPR Hall in Katowice. It will be performed by violin soloist Katarzyna Duda with the Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej, led by Szymon Bywalec. Also in the program is Barbara Kaszuba’s Ptasi Koncert for violin, orchestra and bird voices, in the premiere of the chamber orchestra version of this 2007 piece, as well as Igor Stravinsky’s Concerto in E-flat “Dumbarton Oaks”.

Opałka received financial support in the writing of Violin Concerto No. 2 “Afterglow” from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as a part of “Collections” program – “Composing Commissions,” which is realized by the Institute of Music and Dance (IMiT).

“Afterglow” will be performed again by Duda on May 16 in Warsaw, during the Warsaw Music Encounters Festival.
