One hundred and ten years ago, on February 8, 1909, an avalanche took the life of great Polish composer, Mieczysław Karłowicz. Although he was only 33 years old, his opus already included several large-scale symphonic works, a violin concerto and a number of songs for voice and piano. To commemorate this anniversary, the Karłowicz Society in Zakopane, a town nestled in the Tatra Mountains, organized a concert honoring the composer by presenting some of his best-known work. The concert took place at the Holy Cross Church in Zakopane on February 8, 2019 and featured the prologue to the stage music for the White Dove, Op. 6 and the symphonic poem, Eternal Songs, Op. 10. The centerpiece of the evening for Karłowicz’s splendid Violin Concerto, Op. 8, with the venerable soloist, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka. The Beethoven Academy Orchestra was led by Monika Stefaniak.
