Aleksander Nowak’s Drach

The world premiere of Aleksander Nowak’s Drach. Dramma per musica was performed on October 4-6 at the Auksodrone Festival in Tychy, Poland. Set to a libretto by Szczepan Twardoch, each act of this three-act work was performed on a different night of the festival, and on October 5, audiences were treated to a panel with the work’s creators – Nowak and Twardoch – hosted by Michal Nogaś.

Drach. Dramma per musica is based on Szczepan Twardoch’s novel of the same name. The performance featured singers Joanna Freszel, Jan Jakub Monowid and Sebastian Szumski, accompanied by the AUKSO Orchestra with harpsichordist Marcin Świątkiewicz, under the baton of Marek Moś.

Elżbieta Sikora’s The Underground Passage

The Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw and Programe 2 of the Polish Radio celebrated Elżbieta Sikora’s 75th birthday on 20 October at the Witold Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio.

During the anniversary concert, Anna Mikołajczyk (soprano) and the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw conducted by Michał Klauza performed Elżbieta Sikora’s Partita from the Baroque Suite No. 3 and Lamento from the opera Madame Curie. In addition, her new work for orchestra and electronics, The Underground Passage, was premiered.

Romuald Twardowski – Sacrum * Profanum

The premiere of the new album published by DUX “Romuald Twardowski – Sacrum * Profanum” was held on 20 October in the Holy Cross Church at Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw. Released on the eve of Twardowski’s 90th birthday of the Polish composer, the album is a testimony to his compositional path through a cappella choral music.

The concert was performed by the Częstochowa Philharmonic Choir Collegium Cantorum under the direction of Janusz Siadlak. There was also an event with Romuald Twardowski, his relatives and friends, and representatives of the music community. The concert was organized in cooperation with the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union.
