From 11-13 April 2018, the Institute of Arts at São Paulo State University in Campinas, Brazil (UNICAMP) is hosting the 3rd annual Festival de Música Polonesa [Festival of Polish Music]. Festival Director, cellist Lars Hoefs (a USC Thornton School of Music graduate, now teaching at UNICAMP), says: “It may seem an odd fit, a Polish music festival in Brazil, but these two cultures really seem to get along.”

This year’s special guest is the Messages Quartet. This excellent string quartet from Kraków will perform works by Laks, Penderecki, Moniuszko, Panufnik, and Haydn, as well as collaborating in quintets by Boccherini and Bacewicz with Hoefs and UNICAMP piano prof. Alexandre Zamith. The 3-day Festival will also include masterclasses with all of the Messages members, as well as lectures and curated concerts.
