Former principal of the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and current concertmaster of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) in Katowice, violinist Rafał Zambrzycki-Payne was born in Łódź, Poland. For his latest recording, he has teamed up with pianist Hyung-ki Joo, the famous half of the popular “Igudesman & Joo” duo, and cellist Thomas Carroll, a fellow member of the Dimension Trio, for a dazzling reading of Brahms’ all-time favorite Piano Trio B Major. Also on this recording is Frank Bridge’s gorgeous Phantasie Trio, a much underestimated gem of the chamber music repertoire of the early 20th century.

Other recent recordings by Zambrzycki-Payne include Portrait Rafal Zambrzycki-Payne: XX/XXI (EMCD-015) released by EM Medien Records, the in-house recording label of Ensemble Modern. This survey of greats of the 20th and 21st century violin repertoire includes Witold Lutosławski’s Partita (1984) for violin and piano.
