On November 5, Alina Trance Fusion held a concert at the Lutoslawski Studio as part of the “In Good Companionship” concert series. Alina Trance Fusion is a duo comprised of the unique combination of saxophonist Alina Mleczko and Gambian kora player Buba Badjie Kuyateh. Alina Trance Fusion was accompanied onstage by Wojciech Gumiński (double bass), Kuba Pogorzelski (African drums), and Albert Karch (percussion). Agnieszka Wilczyńska, jazz vocalist, awarded with Fryderyk 2016 award in the category of the Debut of The Year-Music for the album “Here I Live [Tutaj mieszkam],” made a special guest appearance at the concert as well.

Though the individual artists are from extremely different musical worlds and instruments, the unconventional harmony formed musical dialogue between the two cultures. The fusion of African and Polish tradition is also a fusion of artistic experiences and music genres. The experience of European music, classical and contemporary familiar to Alina Mleczko in combination with the energy of African music close to Buba Badije Kuyateh’s heart creates a new, unusual value. The songs from Gambia and chosen traditional Polish themes serve only as a pretext to create their own music and improvisation.
